Methodology

The methodology used for modeling was based on a disease progression model described in more detail in the following article.

Razavi H, Waked I, Sarrazin C, et al. The present and future disease burden of hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection with today's treatment paradigm. J Viral Hepat 2014; 21: (Suppl. 1), 34-59.

The base scenario assumed that the treatment paradigm prior to the launch of the new direct acting antivirals (DAAs) continued into the future. The Base lines in the Dashboard tab show the assumptions for the number of treated and diagnosed patients under the base scenario.

The aggressive scenario was built using assumptions provided by experts in each country. These scenarios ranged from small increases in treatment to goals of disease control or viral elimination.  A more detailed description of each aggressive strategy can be found in the publications below. Additionally, the graphs on the Dashboard tab describe the increase in treatment, and required increase in screening, to accomplish the aggressive strategy.

Country-specific model inputs and assumptions have been described in detail in three supplementary issues to the Journal of Viral Hepatitis as well as in local and international publications. Please choose a country below to view the local contributors and data sources.
