Qatar Ministry of Public Health offers free HCV screening

The Qatar Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) has been offering free screenings for HCV at a number of shopping malls around the country during Ramadan. The campaign to spread awareness and diagnose HCV is part of a larger effort by the MOPH, the Qatar Red Crescent (QRCS) and Abbvie to eliminate HCV by 2020. 500 patients were treated with DAAs for free in 2016; and new funding in a memorandum of understanding signed with QRCS in April 2017 will provide low income individuals with greater access to DAAs. According to a survey conducted by the MOPH in 2016, among 7,000 individuals, 0.2% of nationals and 1% of residents tested positive for HCV. Read more...
