Brazil will provide open acces to the DAAs by 2018

For the World Hepatitis Day, Brazil’s ministry of health announced that it will remove all restrictions for DAA treatment for HCV. Currently, only those with fibrosis stages of F3 or F4 are eligible for treatment. The ministry of health is planning to expand treatment to those with fibrosis stages of F2 this year and remove all restrictions in 2018. Brazil has been a strong supporter of HCV elimination and is the host country of the World Hepatitis Summit this year. The country has budgeted for screening of 12 million individuals in 2017 using point of care diagnostic tests. Brazil has already conducted over 6 million tests.
